Pet Insurance

At Eagles Landing Animal Hospital, we believe pet medical insurance is an important part of responsible pet ownership. Insurance can help pet owners plan and budget for unexpected illnesses, injuries, and emergencies that may arise throughout a pet’s lifetime.

Below are answers to some common questions we receive about pet insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pet insurance?

Pet insurance is medical coverage for your pet that helps offset the cost of veterinary care related to accidents, illnesses, and, in some cases, routine wellness care, depending on the plan you choose. Insurance plans vary by provider and policy, including differences in cost, deductibles, and coverage limits. In general, coverage begins after the policy’s deductible has been met, and deductibles may reset for each new medical condition.

Coverage details, deductibles, and reimbursement structures vary by insurance company and policy; this information is provided as a general overview only.

Does my pet qualify for pet insurance?

Most dogs and cats are eligible for pet insurance, including puppies and kittens. Coverage, age limits, waiting periods, and exclusions vary by provider and policy. Pre-existing conditions are not covered, which is why enrolling pets early—before health issues develop—can be beneficial.

Do you accept pet insurance at Eagles Landing Animal Hospital?

Yes! We are happy to work with all pet insurance providers. Clients are responsible for understanding their individual policy details and submitting their own insurance claims unless otherwise specified by their insurance company. If you have questions about medical records or invoices needed for a claim, our team is always happy to help.

Do you recommend a specific pet insurance company?

While we work with all pet insurance providers, many of our clients have had positive experiences with Trupanion based on overall satisfaction and ease of use. Trupanion offers Vet Direct Pay (see below) and an Exam Day Offer to new clients and newly enrolled pets (see below). We encourage pet owners to research multiple insurance options to find the best fit for their pet and budget.

Please note that Eagles Landing Animal Hospital is not affiliated with, owned by, or compensated by Trupanion or any other pet insurance provider.

How does Trupanion’s Vet Direct Pay work?

For clients who are Trupanion members, we offer Vet Direct Pay, which allows Trupanion to pay their portion of the invoice directly to us at checkout. This means you only pay your portion at the time of your visit—no waiting for reimbursement.

Please note that Vet Direct Pay is subject to Trupanion’s policy terms, coverage eligibility, and approval at the time of service.

What is Trupanion’s Exam Day Offer?

After your pet receives a veterinary exam, they may be eligible for up to 30 days of coverage at no upfront cost. The offer must be activated within 24 hours of your pet’s exam and applies to new, unexpected illnesses and injuries, including diagnostics, surgeries, and more. There is no obligation to enroll, and we encourage pet owners to research multiple insurance options to find the best fit for their pet and budget.

Is pet insurance worth it?

Pet insurance can be a valuable tool for many families, especially when managing unexpected medical costs. Every pet and household is different, so the value depends on your pet’s age, health, lifestyle, and your financial comfort level. We encourage pet owners to review coverage options carefully and ask questions before enrolling.
